So the JMC Career Fair is finally HERE!! The fair is this Thursday, March 2 from 11am-2pm in the NU Centennial Room.

You all should come and network with employers, but some of you may have never attended a career fair or know what to expect. So how do you prepare for a career fair?

-Bring personal laptop or check one out from NU 225, so you can show employers your portfolio, if you have one.
-Make sure your profile is up-to-date on Husker Hire Link
-Identify and research employers attending the fair on Husker Hire Link
-Update and tailor your resume
-Dress to impress! Wearing appropriate and professional attire will make a great first impression
-Practice your introduction (elevator pitch)

What to expect day of career fair?

-Prioritize which employers to speak with
-Be OPEN MINDED about which employers to speak with because you might be surprised what employers have to offer!
-Have several resumes printed on resume paper and store them in a plain folder or in a portfolio
-Ask for a business card for contact information
-Approach employers with a firm handshake, eye contact, and plenty of enthusiasm and interest

What to wear to a career fair?

Wear Business Professional:
-Dark colored pant suit
-Dark colored skirt suit
-Make sure the skirt is knee-length and NOT form fitting
-White dress shirt and tie
-Solid or subtle patterned blouse/top
-Dark, polished shoes with matching socks
-Closed-toed shoes with no more than 1-2 inch heels

DO NOT WEAR sweatpants, sweatshirts/hoodies, yoga pants, leggings as pants, jeans, shorts, athletic clothes or shoes, or ball caps.

REMEMBER to dress professionally, so that you feel confident and comfortable when talking with employers.
