Examples of Work
Establish a strong internal communication plan strategy with objectives and timelines; leverage multiple communication channels, such as the Intranet, email, social media, newsletters, video, digital photography, webcasts and printed materials; participate in leadership meetings as necessary to stay current on priorities and developments; build strong relationships across agency to tap into interesting, newsworthy items; use survey results, team feedback and data analysis to measure and course correct as needed to achieve a superior outcome; write and edit impactful, engaging content using exemplary writing skills and storytelling; ensure timely deployment of news and information to engage a statewide, diverse team; research and translate complex information into clear, relevant messages easily understandable by all team members; test ideas and messages for tone, understanding, and interest; ensure internal communication is consistent with external communication; be a visible brand and mission ambassador and champion for teammate engagement; provide employees with knowledge and tools allowing them to be ambassadors for DHHS initiatives; stay up-to-date on employee communications best practices and identify new trends and methods of communication.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in journalism, public relations, communications, advertising, creative writing or related field. Experience in developing, planning and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media communication activities or public information programs may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Working collaboratively as part of a communications team, the Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic, fully-integrated internal communications plan that aligns content and purpose with the Department of Health and Human Services' mission, core values, policies, and priority initiatives to engage and motivate a geographically dispersed, diverse stateside workforce of over 4,600 team members. This position must develop an in-depth understanding of the organization's strategic direction and use this knowledge to determine meaningful, consistent, clear, and engaging content to drive effective internal communications and deeper understanding of the organization, developments and progress.

OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Research, write, film, photograph, edit, update, publish and post content

Minimum 3-5 years corporate or other internal communication experience designing and implementing creative, comprehensive communication programs, utilizing a variety of methods.

Promote leadership visibility and engagement in partnership with relevant division communications leads.
Excellent planning, writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as ability to source stories from employees.

Strong ethics and values, high level of integrity.
Versatility to produce wide variety of communications materials requirement minimal editing, often under tight deadlines.
Requires sound judgment, strong ability to be proactive and responsive. Deals with highly complex issues with significant organization-wide impact.

Ability to identify needs and identify/implement solutions.
Familiarity with information technology, especially digital photography, web and video.
