The total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, Aug. 21.

On Monday, Aug. 21, classes will begin for the fall semester at UNL. The first day of classes also marks the date of the total solar eclipse.

The college office and equipment check out room will be closed from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. We are asking that students please check their email and Canvas to stay updated on whether their professor cancels or suspends class during that time.

The total solar eclipse is expected to begin at 11:37 a.m. Its maximum viewing (total eclipse) will be at 1:03 p.m. The eclipse will conclude at 2:29 p.m. Although the process is expected to take 2 hours and 53 minutes, the total eclipse will only last for 1 minute and 29 seconds in Lincoln.

Keep your eyes safe during the eclipse! To avoid permanent eye damage, it is imperative that you only view the eclipse with approved eye protection. UNL will be handing out protective eyewear at several locations on campus. For full event details, visit: http://www.unl.edu/2017-solar-eclipse/.
