Copyeditor/Writer- Michigan Tech University

Are you a word nerd? A tireless grammarian? Do you feel comfortable in the world of science and technology? Can you craft and edit copy for a variety of media?

Michigan Technological University’s office of University Marketing and Communications (UMC) seeks a talented copyeditor and writer who’s as crazy smart as our students. We need someone who notices the small details, can juggle multiple projects at once, meets deadlines, and gives clear written and verbal feedback. You need to be able to uphold brand guidelines and edit for punctuation, grammar, clarity, and logical completeness, following AP or Chicago Manual of Style, depending on the project, as well as UMC’s own Editorial Guide. The person in this role should also be able to communicate effectively regarding their progress, goals, and estimated timelines for completed work. Our ideal candidate will be:

● An experienced copyeditor with a passion for language, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.
● Interested in the areas of science, research, engineering, and technology, as well as the people who work in those areas.
● Capable of editing content and occasionally writing for a variety of media, including magazines, newsletters, annual reports, web/blogs/social media, and the Michigan Tech news site (mtu.edu/news).
● Fast, accurate, and enthusiastic, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
