Happy Thanksgiving from Dean Maria Marron

Dear Students,

I hope you have had a productive and exciting semester so far.

As Thanksgiving break begins, I want to thank you all for your hard and smart work and dedication this fall.

The CoJMC has had a busy fall. We have had visitors from various universities, news organizations and agencies who have made a big impact on students and faculty alike.

We have had students who have won significant placements in competitions such as the South Central Broadcasting Society (SCBS) conference and award ceremony October 7 in Texas where Jeremy Davis, Kellan Heavican and Jack Housenga and Bailey Hurley took home three Grand Prizes.

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) has named three CoJMC students the Most Promising Multicultural Students. Anna Fobair, Julia Nguyen and Wellesley Michael were each awarded the honor. Carlos Velasco, graphic design major and creative director at Jacht Ad Lab, also received the award. The top 50 winners of the award will be invited to attend the 2018 Mosaic Career Fair in Chicago, where they will tour advertising agencies, network with professionals and gain real-world experience in the advertising field.

Our faculty have taught great classes and also have had major accomplishments such as the MobileMe&You3 Conference led by Professor Gary Kebbel, the Chancellor’s Lecture presented by Professor Matt Waite, the premiere of “Black Jack Pershing: Love and War” by Professor Barney McCoy, and myriad other successes.

I am thankful for all the students, faculty and staff who make the College of Journalism and Mass Communications such a great place to study and work. I encourage you to take a break to relax and spend time with loved ones this Thanksgiving. If you are traveling, travel safely. We look forward to having you return with high energy and motivation so we can end the semester strong.

Go Big Red!

And Happy Thanksgiving.

Maria B. Marron, Ph.D.
