Students can get hands-on experience as they travel to Ireland this spring under the direction of professor Amy Struthers and CoJMC Dean Maria Marron, a native of Ireland. The class, JOMC/ADPR 491/891: Ireland: Culture and Media, will begin Sunday, May 13, 2018, and end Monday, May 28, 2018.

Preparation for the course will take place for approximately six weeks from mid-March through early May 2018. The group will be centered in Dublin for each of the two weeks and will spend their first weekend in the country exploring Wicklow and the Portlaoise/Midlands area. Their second weekend will be in Galway and the Gaeltacht.

Students will create a multimedia project as their cumulative experiential-learning-based outcome of the course. They also will be responsible for keeping a daily journal and will write a reflection paper at the end of the course.

The course offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Irish culture and learn about the media in Ireland and its relationship to Irish culture. Students will also gain an understanding of representative Irish media outlets and advertising/public relations industries. Cost of the trip is estimated at $5,700-$6,000, all-inclusive.
