NPW scholarships available to undergrad and graduate students

Nebraska Press Women organization offers two scholarships each year to students studying journalism at Nebraska colleges and universities. The $500 Memorial Scholarship is supported by money donated to a scholarship trust fund. The $300 Excellence in Media Scholarship is supported by proceeds from NPW's annual Communications Contest.

An applicant must be in, or beyond, the second half of her second academic year of college. Graduate students must be enrolled for at least nine credit hours; undergraduate students for at least 12 hours.

Applications must include:
• A Nebraska Press Women Scholarship Application Form, available from the head of your department.
• At least one, and not more than three, samples of applicant’s work, such as newspaper stories, photographs, radio or video clips, advertising copy or layouts.
• A personal letter, outlining applicant’s achievements and goals. This letter must be no more than two, double-spaced, single-sided pages. The letter will be a major factor considered by the scholarship committee.
• A letter of reference from an advisor or faculty member that attests to the applicant’s overall GPA and her GPA in her major field; it should also note why the applicant should be selected for this scholarship.
• An optional second letter of reference from a person of the applicant’s choice.

Application must be postmarked on or before Dec. 22, 2011.
