As you may know, the weekend before school begins all the way through the first week of classes encompasses our annual Big Red Welcome events. This year we have some great opportunities for RSOs to promote themselves and recruit new members: Party at the Union, The Street Festival, Club Fair, & The East Campus Welcome! Last fall 100% of the RSOs that participated in these events and provided us with feedback reported that participating in these events was beneficial to their club.
First up on the calendar is Party at the Union. This is one of Student Involvement’s favorite annual events and will be held on Saturday, August 18th from 9:30 pm until midnight. We encourage RSOs to set up an interactive booth or creative station that showcases their organization as well as engages the 3,500 students who annually attend this event.
The very next day is the Street Festival! Listed as one of Nebraska’s many traditions, RSOs are sure to interact and connect with many students, as well as other faculty, staff, and the Lincoln community. The Street Festival will be held on Sunday, August 19th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, in the loop parking lot by Memorial Stadium.
The first week of classes bring the Club Fair and the East Campus Welcome. These events are specifically designed for RSOs to promote their organization and connect with new Huskers. This year Club Fair will be held on the Plaza of the Nebraska Union on Wednesday, August 22nd from 11:15 am until 1:15 pm and the East Campus Welcome will be held on the East Campus Mall on Thursday, August 23rd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
These events will be a great way for your students to promote their organizations, so we are asking you, as advisors, to encourage your groups to sign up! We are asking that all forms be completed and submitted by no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, August 3, 2018.
