This event aims to address technology’s role in our democratic engagement. The event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium at the Sheldon Museum of Art.

This lecture is a part of the Broader Considerations of Technology Lecture Series that began Spring of 2018. The first lecture was on Artificial Intelligence and the future of Employment.

This lecture features Dr. Mohammad Hasan, Machine Learning and Data Science and Professor Matt Waite, Journalism and Web Development.

BCT (Broader Consideration of Technology), in general, aims to foster conversation about the responsible development of technology, the ethics therein, and projections for the future. We intend to achieve this by presenting different disciplinary perspectives. Some questions asked will be “How is technology influencing our democratic process?”; “How do social media algorithms influence the information we receive?”; “Can social media increase voter turnout?”; “What are the societal implications and how can we address these concerns moving forward?” Sponsored by Computer Science and Engineering Ambassadors.
