Do you have the drive to compete? Can you tell a story in photos? Enter the Philip Perry Photo Challenge for the chance to win a year’s worth* of tuition and fees to continue your studies at CoJMC.
The Philip Perry Photo Challenge will occur over two days, March 9 and 10, 2019. On day one, participants will have eight hours shoot and edit a 12 photograph photo essay about the Forgotten Across Campus. Five professional photographers will judge the submissions to select five finalists. On day two, the five remaining finalists will present their work to the judges, faculty and friends of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications and a winner will be named.
The competition will be judged by:
-Ted Kirk, retired photo editor, Lincoln Journal Star, Lincoln, Nebraska
-Khara Plicanic, award-winning photographer, author and teacher, Lincoln, Nebraska
-Ryan Soderlin, photographer, Omaha World-Herald, Omaha, Nebraska
-Alyssa Schukar, independent photographer, Chicago, Illinois
-Calla Kessler, freelance photographer, Washington, D.C.
The winning contestant will receive a scholarship of up to 30 credit hours of in-state tuition and fees applied directly to their student account during the 2019-2020 academic year. The scholarship cannot be carried forward to future semesters and the winner must remain a major in CoJMC during the 19-20 academic year.
The challenge is open to all undergraduate majors in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications graduating no sooner than May 2020. The are no prerequisite courses or experience needed to compete.
The contest is limited to the first 20 participants to register. Registration will open at noon on Feb. 11 and will close on Feb. 22 or when 20 participants have registered, whichever comes first.
