Marketing Communications Specialist - Michigan Tech (Houghton, MI)

The marketing communications specialist is a strategy-first copywriter, crafting branded, persuasive, creative content for external print, digital (web, social, email), and multimedia vehicles. The marketing communications specialist is keenly aware of target audiences for enrollment efforts and can create high-quality, attention-grabbing copy on a deadline while meeting client expectations and brand and editorial standards. The person in this role will gain a firm grasp of the Michigan Tech brand and ensure that all created content aligns with brand voice and positioning, including latest messaging priorities. The marketing communications specialist will report to and work closely with the executive director of communications to conceptualize, plan, and produce the marketing content within University Marketing and Communications, a dynamic team of 30 staff members.

Essential Responsibilities:
> Research, create, produce, and curate marketing copy for internal and external campaigns on a variety of platforms
> Write and edit content both independently and within a creative team atmosphere
> Participate in strategic planning of messaging, target audience development and refinement, content creation, and content promotion
> Work closely with project designers to integrate copy length, style, and format with visuals
> Work closely with digital services team to develop branded content for social media, web, and video that meets accessibility requirements and accounts for search engine optimization
> Assist with marketing communications-related administrative tasks
> Provide project status updates using project management tools and processes
> Implement and hone brand voice on all marketing materials
> Manage and maintain University brand guide
> Support social media objectives
> Follow University editorial style guidelines

Required Education:
> Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field
> Applicants who expect to earn a bachelor’s degree within the next six months and within one of the fields listed above may apply if they can demonstrate at least two years’ professional experience writing and editing marketing content
