Please help Nebraska recover from the storm of a century: Join us at forums Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26, both days at 5 p.m. in Andersen Room 15, to mobilize the CoJMC family for this media emergency!
This week Nebraskan's are still recovering from perhaps the most devastating storm in the state's history. Fortunately, the loss of human life, while always tragic, was small. But the physical, psychological and economic damages left behind by the storm are staggering. This natural disaster, whose cost is an estimated $1.3 billion, will take months, even years, from which to recover.
The harsh reality? Some Nebraskans, farms, ranches, businesses, even communities perhaps, won't recover.
Some of you, your family or friends may have been directly affected by last week's cyclonic bomb. It caused perilous blizzard conditions for residents, farmers, ranchers, and livestock in western and central Nebraska. The extreme flooding on the eastern side of our state still threatens thousands of people in many of our communities.
Please join the CoJMC faculty in conversation about the impact of the storm and help us create a plan for an immediate response together as journalists, public relations writers, broadcasters, videographers, photographers, podcasters, designers, copywriters, crisis communicators and advertising students. Your skills are needed by our professional colleagues across the state who are stretched thin trying to cover this disaster. You can provide an important service to your fellow humans in telling their stories and helping move families and communities forward. Our forums will help us develop a plan to best deploy all the talent, skills and energy in CoJMC!
When adversity is high, the human spirit shines brightest. It's an opportunity to be part of one of the most important stories of our lives. It's a chance to make a memorable difference as communicators when the need is greatest.
Help tell the personal stories of the Nebraskans who have suffered from this disaster, the stories of those who have stepped forward to help in this crisis and those struggling to get their lives, families, businesses, and communities back to normal. explain what comes next as our state recovers from this $1.3 billion disaster. That adds up to $684 for every Nebraska man, woman, and child.
We'll discuss all this and more at open forums Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26, both days at 5 p.m. in Andersen Room 15.
We welcome your thoughts, ideas, and comments.
