This position offers experience in reporting and writing a variety of stories for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. You'll work with the news team that covers the activities and programs of IANR. Our team based on UNL's East Campus, writes and distributes stories to newspapers, radio, TV, magazines and websites across Nebraska, the region and the nation. Students may also write copy for the IANR website and IANR publication. Students may use social media to distribute that information. We cover a wide range of topics including: agriculture, natural resources, families , food and nutrition, wildlife, economics and the environment.

You'll work with experienced reporters and editors, hone your writing and reporting skills and build your news clips. You'll conduct interviews, write news stories and other information and help with special communications projects. Many of our student writers have landed excellent jobs in journalism or public relations/public information after graduation.

Student writer will typically work 15-20 hours weekly during the school year. Summer employment can also be negotiated. We offer a competitive pay and flexibility to accommodate classes. Qualifications: experience writing news stories (news editorial
classes included); completion of at least one news writing and reporting class or equivalent newspaper experience; at least sophomore standing , juniors and seniors preferred. Interest in or knowledge of agriculture, natural resources or science desirable
but not required.

IANR News Service is seeking a part-time student photographer to illustrate a variety of projects for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. You'll work with the news team that covers the activities and programs of IANR. Our team, based on UNL's East Campus, writes and distributes stories to newspapers, radio, TV, magazines and websites across Nebraska, the region and nation. Students will work with the news team to take photos to accompany news stories. In addition, students may take photos to illustrate a new IANR website and publication.

IANR News Service covers a wide range of topics including: agriculture, natural resources, families, food and nutrition, wildlife, economics and the environment. You'll work with experienced reporters and editors and build your photography portfolio.
Students typically work 15-20 hours weekly during the school year. Summer employment can also be negotiated. We offer competitive pay and flexibility to accommodate classes.

Qualifications: Must be a student in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications or Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication. Must have news experience (Daily Nebraskan or COJMC classes are acceptable). Must be a self-starter and willing to coordinate effectively with IANR News team, IANR faculty and staff. Juniors and seniors preferred Interest in or knowledge of agriculture, natural resources or science desirable but not required.

Educational Media is seeking interns for 2012. Educational Media assists in the dissemination of research-based information from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR). Educational Media is a division of the UNL’s Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication.
Through this internship program, students will receive real-world experiences in video and audio production. Students will assist in the development and production of the Market Journal and Backyard Farmer television programs. In addition, interns will work with the Ag Almanac radio program.
Through these award-winning agricultural and horticultural programs, UNL and IANR are able to serve the citizens of Nebraska and beyond through television, radio and online delivery. Interns will receive practical experiences through hands-on activities, including: script writing, audio/video editing and production, content development, social media outreach, and preparing features for broadcast and web delivery.
To apply, students must submit two (2) letters of recommendation, a letter of intent and a résumé.
Intern wages depends on background skills and work experience.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Ag Almanac
· Record interviews for weekly radio series
· Edit segments into smaller sound bites and prepare for broadcast

Market Journal
· Attend weekly planning meetings and contribute to content development
· Write, shoot and edit packages for weekly broadcast
· Assist with online delivery of program
· Coordinate guests for future segments
· Serve as a crew member for studio and on-location shoots

Backyard Farmer
· Coordinate, shoot and edit packages for weekly broadcast
· Prepare and upload video segments to social media sites, such as YouTube
· Assist with weekly live productions at the NET studio
· Regularly attend planning sessions with content providers

Additional Tasks
· Serve as producer or crew member for various video projects as determined by intern lead

Preferred Qualifications
· Students majoring in agricultural journalism with a broadcast emphasis
· Strong interest in agriculture and agricultural-related fields

Minimum Qualifications
· Must be at least a college sophomore
· Knowledge of the broadcast style of writing
· Social media experience in promotion and marketing
· Knowledge and experience with video shooting and production
· Demonstrated experience with video equipment and editing software (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Audition)
· Interns may be expected to work evenings and weekends and must have a flexible schedule
· Must be able to take initiative and meet deadlines
