Communications Assistant - American Red Cross (Lincoln, NE)

Communication Assistants are responsible for telling the story and sharing the messages of the American Red Cross Nebraska/Kansas/SW Iowa Region through a variety of communications and marketing avenues. This position will provide for both an educational and rewarding experience with a highly-visible and well-regarded organization dedicated to turning compassion into action in times of need.

Communications Assistants coordinate and execute communications projects in conjunction with the Regional Communications and Marketing Department.

Responsibilities could include:
> Writing: Feature stories, news releases, media advisories, blog posts, bios, event scripts and talking points.
> Social Media: Drafting compelling social media content and scheduling content on appropriate social media channels.
> Marketing: Creation of flyers, save-the-dates, infographics and other marketing collateral by utilizing Red Cross Brand Central.
> Video Production: Creation of videos to highlight client or volunteer experiences or an event.

* Note: Communications Assistants will not be responsible for ALL of the above tasks but should be knowledgeable and skilled in some of the listed responsibilities. A majority of the work is completed remotely, but some coordination with the Red Cross office in Lincoln, located at 4600 Valley Road, Suite 300, may be necessary.

This position requires a minimum 8-10 hours per week (in the office and/or remotely). There is flexibility in scheduling while still enabling the Communications Assistant to carry out key responsibilities. Time commitment will vary based on each project and may flex up or down depending on the phase of the project.

This position is open to all university students regardless of grade level. A background in journalism, communications or marketing is preferred, but not required. Previous writing experience is preferred. Communications interns should have exceptional organizational, time management and people skills.
