It was more than just the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Public Relations Student Society of America (UNL PRSSA) chapter that was proud to have high-performing members involved in the organization – the national chapter recognized those efforts as well. On July 10, 2019, UNL PRSSA received the Star Chapter Award for the 2018-2019 school year, the fourth consecutive year of winning the award. This honor is the “gold standard” for PRSSA chapters working to achieve excellence, according to National PRSSA.

Winning chapters met defined requirements such as high school outreach, ethical work, national conference attendance, scholarship applications and other categories. Chapters of any size are eligible to apply and measurement of achieving the award standards are determined by chapter-specific professional development goals.

“I am so proud of the work accomplished by our chapter’s members,” UNL PRSSA chapter president Brianna Frisbie said. “The dedication to advancing the public relations profession by working towards becoming ethically responsible professionals who champion diversity is astounding. Winning the Star Chapter Award proves to me that we are successful in our efforts in enhancing our education and broadening our professional network.”

By winning the Star Chapter Award, UNL’s chapter also qualifies to join the Aspire Higher: Future Fellows Mentoring Program organized by National PRSSA. This opportunity connects dedicated and motivated students with some of PRSA’s most successful professional members. Students are matched with a mentor and instantly gain a valuable relationship meant to guide them on future professional endeavors. While UNL’s PRSSA chapter already has a mentorship program within its alumni network, this additional opportunity for mentorship support will allow the chapter’s professional network and leadership opportunities to increase.
