On March 7, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and UNL Extension hosted the Holling Family Program for Teaching Excellence Reception at the Nebraska East Union. 2012 Holling Family Award Recipients from UNL Extension are listed below.

UNL Dean and Director Interviews
The interview process for finding a new Dean and Director of UNL Extension began this week. Susan Williams is interviewing now, Deborah Sheely will be interviewing the week of March 12, Duane Williams will be interviewing the week of March 19, and David Hardin will be interviewing the week of March 26. I encourage of all you to participate in the interviews as fully as possible and turn in your evaluation forms to Linda Arnold (larnold1@unl.edu) in 202 Agricultural Hall, East Campus 0708 by March 30.
Northeast Research and Extension Center and Extension District Five-Year, Issue-Based Review
The five-year, issue-based review of the Northeast Research and Extension Center and Extension District was held this week. Thanks are extended to the entire Northeast District faculty and staff for preparing for the review and at the last minute - - thinking about their “signature” programs. Larry Van Tassell led the review team which included K.C. Belitz (President, Columbus Chamber of Commerce), Alan Ladd (Iowa State Regional Extension Educator Director), Jessye Goertz, Michelle Krehbiel, and Jerry Volesky.
Appreciation is also expressed to the review team for taking time from their schedules to participate in the process and to add their thoughts to the ideas prepared by the faculty and staff. Thanks to all for a productive review!
5th Annual Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic (NCC) Beef Contest
On Saturday, February 25, a total of 330 contestants participated in the 5th Annual NCC Contest sponsored by the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic. In total, the contestants represented 25 counties, 22 colleges, and 11 different states. Over 40 people helped prepare classes, register contestants, show cattle, tabulate, and officiate the contest. Ten different breeds were represented by fourteen different producers, making up a total of ten classes for the contest. Teams traveled from Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The Classic all cattle contest continues to attract national teams and will be looking to do so again next February at the 6th annual event.
