Site Bytes - Updating Box Links

With the migration from Box to OneDrive, any links to files on Box will eventually break. To make sure your users can still access those files, learn how to find and update your Box links.

Extension sites will begin their Box migration in late March. The documents will still be available on Box for four weeks, but will then be available only on OneDrive.

Web Audit will flag links with 'unl.box.com' in the 'UNLedu Framework Checker' metric as a notice. To see these notices, you would need to go into each page of the Web Audit report.

A faster way to find Box links is to search for 'unl.box.com' with the 'Search and Replace Scanner' under 'Find Content' in the gray administration menu. The scanner will find any page with 'unl.box.com' in the body.
If you do not have access to the 'Search and Replace Scanner', you may need to activate it under 'Modules'.
For Extension County sites, contact Anne Holz (anneh@unl.edu) or Keith McGuffey (kmcguffey2@unl.edu) for a list of Box links.

Once you have identified the existing links to Box, update them with the shared links from OneDrive. To create a link for a file, select it and use the 'Share' option, copy the created link, and update the link on your webpage.

Considerations:
You may want to keep a spreadsheet of the links you update and the titles of documents that have moved from Box to OneDrive.
You may want to consider uploading your files to the UNLcms file browser instead of using links to OneDrive. A limitation of the file browser is only being able to upload one file at a time, but you won't have to worry about updating the links to the file in the future.
