May is National Wildfire Awareness Month

Chris Schroeder, Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), recently met with the Nebraska EDEN Team. In the meeting, Chris shared that NEMA will be promoting May as National Wildfire Awareness Month.

Nebraska Forest Service Interactive Wildfire Risk Assessment Tool

The Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) has an interactive tool that you can use to assess wildfire risks based on your location. The risk assessment tool is available at https://nebraskawildfirerisk.com/

The NFS site also has a wildfire weather forecast map with forecasts for relative humidity, fire danger, wind gusts, precipitation, and maximum temperatures. These forecast maps were developed in cooperation with the National Weather Service. USDA Offers Disaster Assistance to Nebraska Farmers and Livestock Producers Impacted by Drought, Wildfire

LINCOLN, Neb., April 20, 2022 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has technical and financial assistance available to help Nebraska farmers and livestock producers across the state recover from recent wildfires and ongoing drought. Producers impacted by these events should contact their local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure and livestock losses and damages.
