Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the National Center for Research on Rural Education (R2Ed), I'm pleased to announce and invite you to our 2013 National Conference on Rural Education Research. Titled Connect-Inform-Advance, this two-day event will assemble researchers, educational practitioners and policymakers from across the country to discuss crucial factors influencing the academic success of K-12 students in rural communities.

The conference will specifically foster dialogue about the interrelated impacts of teaching, family engagement and school environment. We sincerely hope you consider helping us explore recent research findings, examine current issues and collaboratively chart future directions for schools and educational policy.

To these ends, our conference will feature several moderated panel presentations that each include representatives from the research, practice and policy communities. Small-group roundtable discussions will follow these presentations, giving all attendees the opportunity to engage in dialogue while providing and receiving real-time reaction through a conference-specific Twitter feed. The conference will include keynote addresses from Roger Breed, Nebraska's Commissioner of Education, and Cindy McIntee, Past President of the National Rural Education Association. John White, Deputy Secretary for Rural Outreach at the U.S. Department of Education, will also give a special address.

We believe that students in rural communities deserve the attention, investment and innovation of our country's brightest educational minds and influential leaders. Please consider joining us April 3-4 in Omaha, Nebraska. You will soon receive more details on the conference and its registration, which opens October 1.

In the meantime, please accept our thanks for all you do to advance rural education!

Susan Sheridan
Director, National Center for Research on Rural Education
