If property owners start making repairs to structures too soon following a storm event, they risk creating conditions that support the growth of mold. Moisture meters are small devices that are used to determine when structures are dried out enough for repairs.
In 2019, most Nebraska Extension offices received moisture meters to help local residents make timely repairs to their property. If your office has moisture meters on hand, this is a good time to get them out, review how they work and test them. Instructions are available in the Employee Resources section of the Disaster Education Website - https://disaster.unl.edu/employee-resources (you will need to be logged in to access these resources). Once you know the moisture meters are ready, let your community know that you have meters available for check-out/loan. This is another way we can help our neighbors in recovery.
