A few topics in July...

“How to Help Clients with Questions: Filling the Role of Digital Information Broker in County Offices” on July 8 and 16. County support staff members have long been the ‘face’ of our Cooperative Extension Service (CES) systems. They are the first people the public interacts with when visiting an Extension office or the first voice heard when someone calls with a question. Over the last decade CES support staff have been transformed from clerical workers to information brokers. With fewer Educators/Agents covering more territory, these county-based staff members often have no one to turn to with questions. They need to know how to help clientele connect with information and resources. The State and Local Value Enhancement Initiative is offering an online train-the-trainer workshop focused on training two Extension professionals from each institution to deliver support staff training. See details at https://learn.extension.org/events/1099 and https://learn.extension.org/events/1100.

“When A Parent Comes Home Changed: Supporting Young Children Whose Military Parent Has Been Injured” on July 16. Child care professionals can make an enormous difference in the lives of young children who have a parent who has come home from military service changed. The little things you say and do matter! Whether the injury is visible or invisible, physical or psychological, the caregiver's role is very important in buffering young children from the unique stress of combat injury. Offered by the Military Families Learning Network. Details at https://learn.extension.org/events/1108.

“Introduction to Extension's Public Value” on July 17. Offered by The National Association of Extension Program and Staff Development Professionals (NAEPSDP). Details at https://learn.extension.org/events/1074.

Popular topics from June...

Our opening keynote speaker for the National eXtension Conference next March will be Dave Gray. We were happy to have him present the recent virtual conference, “The Connected Organization - Dave Gray,” which had 150 participants and excellent discussion. If you missed it, watch the recorded video by following the link at https://learn.extension.org/events/1096. Please add to the discussion with comments in the Add your thoughts section on the Learn event page or in the G+ event where you will find the video.

“Use of surveys in Extension for program development and evaluation” kicked off an informal learning community aimed at mastering the Qualtrics online survey software now in use by eXtension and other institutions. The event recording as well as details about the G+ community can be found at: https://learn.extension.org/events/1069.

Wondering how to get started answering Ask an Expert questions? Or wanting to have a tour of the newer navigation and features of Ask an Expert (AaE) 2.0? Check out the recording of “Ask an Expert Orientation” at https://learn.extension.org/events/1086.

A hot topic for summer is “Mosquito Prevention and Management.” If you missed the session in June, watch the recording at https://learn.extension.org/events/1095.
