Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) training set for Oct. 28

North Platte MARC training
North Platte MARC training

How can Nebraska Extension respond to clients' needs post-disaster? Being involved in a multi-agency resource center (MARC) is a valuable opportunity for us to help clients when they most need it. A MARC is a one-stop shop for those affected by disaster; various community and state organizations and agencies have booths. Disaster victims can visit all the service/information providers and determine a plan of action based upon their and their family’s needs.

The MARC training will be held in North Platte at the West Central Research & Extension Center on October 28, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Red Cross will teach the training, and it is free to attend; lunch will be provided. All Extension faculty and staff are invited to attend. Register for the training online: http://goo.gl/BDla1w

Participants will learn the benefits of a MARC, how to set up a MARC, what agencies should be included, and challenges for coordinating a MARC.

Disasters can happen anywhere. It is during these times that our clients need us more than ever. As a local organization with a presence in every county, it’s imperative we understand our involvement in the response and recovery phases are critical. We have information and resources—and familiar faces—that our clients will look for, and we must be ready to help.

The training will be offered again in January, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, at three additional locations:

Grand Island, January 19, http://goo.gl/nymUkp
Omaha, January 21, http://goo.gl/HWlj1P
Norfolk, January 28, http://goo.gl/l1Ke7T

Travel scholarships are available for participants traveling 50+ miles. To inquire about a scholarship, email Kobi Gellespie, kobi.gellespie@redcross.org. This training is sponsored by Nebraska Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NE VOAD). Nebraska Extension is a member of NE VOAD.
