Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) trainings held in January

MARC training

How can Nebraska Extension respond to clients' needs post-disaster? Being involved in a multi-agency resource center (MARC) is a valuable opportunity for us to help clients when they most need it. A MARC is a one-stop shop for those affected by disaster; various community and state organizations and agencies have booths. Disaster victims can visit all the service/information providers and determine a plan of action based upon their and their family’s needs.

The first MARC training was held in North Platte in October. Additional trainings will be held in three locations this month.

The trainings will be held 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Red Cross will teach the training, and it is free to attend; lunch will be provided. All Extension faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Participants will learn the benefits of a MARC, how to set up a MARC, what agencies should be included, and challenges for coordinating a MARC.

Disasters can happen anywhere. As a local organization with a presence in every county, it’s imperative we understand our involvement in the response and recovery phases are critical. We have information and resources—and familiar faces—that our clients will look for, and we must be ready to help.

Travel scholarships are available for participants traveling 50+ miles. To inquire about a scholarship, email Kobi Gellespie, kobi.gellespie@redcross.org. This training is sponsored by Nebraska Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NE VOAD). Nebraska Extension is a member of NE VOAD.
