What are breadcrumbs on your website?

Breadcrumbs are links that help users navigate your site. The links provide a trail for users to view which sections a page is in and where the page is located in the site's structure.

On your county site, breadcrumbs display on the dark grey bar above the red main menu bar. Unlike main menu bar links, breadcrumb links change as you click around the site.

Your site's breadcrumbs begin with Nebraska>IANR>Nebraska Extension> followed by the home page link, which is highlighted in red text. The last breadcrumb listed displays the page you're currently on while the links in-between display the path to get to it.

Which breadcrumb links display between your home page and the page you're on is determined by how you organize pages on your site. For example, if your "4-H section" has a "County Fair" subsection, when on the "County Fair" page, the breadcrumbs will display like below.

Example:
Nebraska Extension in Herbie County>Herbie County 4-H>County Fair

And, if your "County Fair" page links to pages with more specific information about the fair such as exhibits, a fashion show or the fairbook, the breadcrumbs for those pages might display like below.

  • Nebraska Extension in Herbie County>Herbie County 4-H>County Fair>Exhibits
  • Nebraska Extension in Herbie County>Herbie County 4-H>County Fair>Fashion Show
  • Nebraska Extension in Herbie County>Herbie County 4-H>County Fair>Fairbook

Missing Breadcrumbs
If you notice a non-menu page is missing a breadcrumb link, you may need to reorganize your site's structure. Breadcrumbs are listed in the same order that pages are indented on the menu "list items" screen. For example, to display your 4-H page in the breadcrumbs on a page, the page has to be indented under 4-H in the list items.
