Every year, the College of Law’s Career Services Office hosts a variety of programs and events open to all law students. First-year students are strongly encouraged to attend. These programs are excellent ways for you to learn about areas of the law that you may not be familiar with.
For many, they also represent the first opportunity to meet and start networking with attorneys and alumni, and perhaps even get a free lunch! Programming gets started right away during the first week of classes and will continue throughout the school year. A complete listing of upcoming CSO events can be found by logging on to your R.O.S.C.O.E. account (http://law.unl.edu/career/roscoe.shtml). All first year students will receive a welcome message to R.O.S.C.O.E. by mid-July.
On August 28th, the College of Law and the CSO will welcome attorneys Paul Boeshart and Mick Mickle from the Department of Justice. These U.S. Attorneys will share information about clerkship and internship opportunities with the Department of Justice. They will also make recommendations on how to get your application noticed. (Note: The Department of Justice is the world’s largest legal employer!)
The Exploring Opportunities series gets started the second week of class on September 9th with a panel of attorneys who work in the area of sports and entertainment law. The series will continue with panels every other Tuesday featuring a different area of practice and including panelists from a variety of work environments (small firm, big firm, non-profit organization, government agency, etc.). Make sure to check the Events section of your ROSCOE account to stay up to date on all the great programming provided by the CSO and to RSVP to upcoming events!
Our office is also pleased to announce the Fall 2014 continuation of our “Employer in Residence” program. This program is designed to provide a variety of opportunities for employers to raise their profile with Nebraska Law students. The goal is to supplement the Exploring Opportunities program series and introduce Nebraska Law students to specific employers, not just to the variety of practice areas. An Employer in Residence day can take many forms, including a lunch, social hour, or office hours (or a combination of all three). Stay tuned for further details about firms taking advantage of this program!
