Welcome back! I hope everyone had a peaceful and relaxing break and that you are geared up for a terrific new year in 2018! We have an exciting semester ahead of us, with some great speakers and events coming up, and I hope you actively engage with all that the College of Law has to offer.

In particular, March will be filled with three wonderful speakers. First, on March 2, University of Chicago professors Martha Nussbaum and Saul Levmore will present the Pound Lecture: Law’s Hesitation: Under-Reported Sexual Misbehavior. This is our premier outside speaker event every year, and we are thrilled that the distinguished Professors Nussbaum and Levmore will be here.

Second, former United States Senator Kelly Ayotte from New Hampshire will present the Attorney General Jon Bruning Public Service Lecture on March 7. This important lecture series highlights a career public servant who will discuss the impact lawyers can have in government service.

Third, on March 14, lawyer Robert Grey will present a program on Cultural Competency. Mr. Grey is a former partner and now senior counsel at Hunton & Williams LLP. He is also the President of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). The LCLD is an organization that is comprised of 275 members (who are either general counsel of major corporations or they are managing partners of law firms). These members focus on increasing the diversity of the profession through their respective roles and in partnership with LCLD. In addition to speaking to our students, Mr. Grey is going to spend the morning working with a broad range of stakeholders from across Nebraska, including the College of Law, to develop a strategy to increase the diversity of the legal profession in this State.

Finally, I want to provide a quick reminder that the University’s policy prohibiting smoking, tobacco use, and vaping on university property went into effect on January 1. Please abide by it.

I am looking forward to another semester with you all! Please let me know if there is anything the College of Law can do to help you on your journey.
