This report has been posted by the Student-Faculty Honor Committee (“the Committee”) pursuant to section 1.100(4) of the Honor Code (“the Code”).
On January 18, 2019, the Committee approved a settlement agreement negotiated by a student accused of Honor Code violations and the Prosecutor pursuant to § 1.060(2) of the Code. The charges against the student were that, between the dates of October 1, 2018 and October 12, 2018, the student violated §§ 1.020(1)(A) and 1.020(2)(B)(i) of the Honor Code on more than one occasion, and after a reminder email was sent to all LRW students by Professor Hayden, by discussing and attempting to discuss with other Legal Research and Writing (“LRW”) students a LRW research assignment in violation of Professor Hayden’s written instructions prohibiting such discussions.
As part of the settlement agreement, the student admitted the factual allegations underlying the charges and conceded that the student had violated the Code. The Committee issued a written reprimand to the student and approved other material provisions in the settlement agreement, including: an agreement that this matter would be publicly posted in The Sounding Block without the student’s name; an agreement that the student will withdraw as a student from the College of Law at the end of the current semester; an agreement that the student will request a transfer to a different LRW small group during the current semester; and an agreement that the student will refrain from discussing the substance of the matters that are the subject of the settlement agreement with other students at the College of Law.
