A new course resources management tool, visible as “Libraries Course Materials” in Canvas and provided by the University Libraries, offers a number of benefits for instructors and students. The tool is a bridge between the Libraries catalog and Canvas and offers seamless access to instructor-selected library materials and other course resources (commonly known as course reserves).
The “Libraries Course Materials” link allows students convenient access to the materials they need to be successful in their courses. Students have basic functionality to view and access materials. Instructors have the same basic functionality as students, along with flexibility to maintain and edit their course reserve items (both physical and electronic). To get started, instructors should work with Zach Eden (zeden1@unl.edu), or submit a form through the Libraries Course Reserves page, to get the reserves list created and associated with their courses in Canvas.
Throughout spring and summer 2022, the Libraries will work to bring additional functionality of the tool online and to partner with instructors, instructional designers, and students in making the most of the system. The team will create tutorials, communications, FAQ information, and a phased rollout for future functions.
“Libraries Course Materials” is another tool in Nebraska’s efforts to connect students with affordable course content, including the wealth of resources provided through the University Libraries. A project team from the University Libraries and NU ITS planned for and implemented the new tool. Other libraries in the University of Nebraska Consortium of Libraries (UNCL) may consider future adoption.
