Mitch recaps the 36th Annual North Central Region Local Roads Conference recently held in Sioux Falls, SD.

The 36th Annual North Central Regional Local Roads Conference is in the books! This conference has traditionally been held in Rapid City, but this year we were in Sioux Falls, SD. LTAPs North Central Region includes nine states, and we know how to put on a local roads conference! You should put this one on your calendar for next year, October 18-20, 2022. Last week’s highlight for me was the opportunity to hear from Ken Skorseth, who literally wrote the book on gravel roads. His knowledge of the subject continues to impress. Learning about different products and newer technologies is always a goal of this conference. Presentations about fiberglass rebar, motorgrader telematics, culvert rehabilitation, and developments in concrete and asphalt paving and roadway foundations were very informative. We saw presentations from welding and equipment trainers, as well as some soft-skill topics concerning management and dealing with conflict. Our very own Megan Patent-Nygren gave a great presentation about getting to know your employees. Hillary from Federal Highway was present to talk about personalizing roadway safety and the road to zero deaths on our highways. Dale from North Dakota talked about a daytime sign inspection technique being used by one of his counties that I think you should check out. If you have questions or want more information about any of these topics, please contact me. We will have all the conference presentations posted on our website soon, along with contact information for the presenters. Check it out!
