Advising Updates

Hello Math Majors,

Today, Tuesday, April 21, is the last day of priority enrollment for the Fall 2020 semester, which means that tomorrow starts open enrollment for the fall semester. If you still haven't looked into classes for the summer and/or fall semesters, there is still plenty of time to look at classes and get your schedule figured out. I am still taking Zoom and email meetings every weekday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to answer any questions that you have.

The Pass/No Pass policy for the Spring 2020 semester has undergone significant changes due to the shift to remote, online instruction for all classes. The University has put together a list of questions and answers about the new Pass/No Pass policy for the Spring 2020 here: https://covid19.unl.edu/undergraduate-pass-no-pass-qa. The biggest things that I am getting questions about is 1) how do I make the change to Pass/No Pass and 2) can I make the change right now. First, if you want a course changed to the Pass/No Pass grading basis or changed to the letter grade grading basis, I have to submit a form for you to the College of Arts and Sciences and the University. Therefore, you must contact me if you would like to make this change. Second, the deadline to change a course to the Pass/No Pass grading basis or changed to the letter grade grading basis is now Friday, May 29. This means that you will have a final letter grade in your courses prior to needing to make the change to Pass/No Pass, which means that I strongly recommend that you wait to make a change until after you have a final letter grade. I have been told that it is even possible for a graduating seniors to wait until Friday, May 29 to change a grade to the Pass/No Pass grading basis even though you must be cleared to graduate by 5 pm on Friday, May 8. If you want to change a course back to a letter grade, I also strongly recommend that you do so now! You will still have the opportunity to change the course back to the Pass/No Pass grading basis. Again, you need to contact me if you want a change to be made to a grading basis for a course as you cannot not do so through MyRed. If you have any academic questions about changing a course to Pass/No Pass, please contact me. If you have scholarship and/or financial aid questions about changing a course to Pass/No Pass, please contact the Husker Hub at huskerhub@unl.edu or 402-472-2030.

Remember, this Friday, April 24 is the deadline to withdraw from a course for the Spring 2020 semester. If you withdraw from a course at this point of the semester, you will receive a grade of W that will not affect your cumulative GPA. Unfortunately, you will not receive an tuition refund for withdrawing from a course at this point in the semester.

Summer Courses and Updating your Schedule:

With the shift to remote learning only for summer, if you were planning to take classes this summer, those classes may have changed or may be cancelled. Departments are making final decisions and adjustments this week, so please be sure to check your summer schedule at the end of the week to confirm what you are enrolled in. If you have any questions, reach out to me.

@huskers.unl.edu Email Address

Starting this past summer, ALL University email messages are going to your @huskers.unl.edu email address regardless of your email preferences on MyRed. You MUST check your @huskers.unl.edu email address regularly to stay up-to-date with important announcements from the University. If you would like more information about this change, please visit https://its.unl.edu/helpcenter/student-email-migration/ and review the current student tab of information. All students will be expected to be reviewing their @huskers.unl.edu email address, so if you miss an important piece of information sent to this email, you will still be held responsible for it. If you know your fellow classmates haven't switched over to using their @huskers.unl.edu email address, PLEASE give them this information.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug's Spring 2020 Advising Hours

For the remainder of the semester, I will be advising remotely and by appointment only. You can schedule a meeting with me by using this link to MyPlan (click here for additional instructions about scheduling a meeting), by calling me at 402-472-4319, or by emailing me at dpellatz@unl.edu. There are two ways for us to meet virtually:

Zoom (on-line video/audio or phone) – after you schedule your meeting, I will send you instructions for getting connected. You do not have to have a video and audio connection, but it would be ideal for the best communication including screen sharing. You can also call in using Zoom if you do not have access to a computer or device.

E-mail – prior to our arranged appointment time, e-mail me your questions from your @huskers.edu account. I will respond to your initial questions, then we can exchange messages throughout our allotted time. If we run out of time, we can schedule a follow up. Continued emailing outside of your appointment time may have delayed response due to an increase in email traffic, but I will respond as quickly as possible.

Please specify in your meeting request what format you prefer for our meeting. I look forward to connecting and helping you navigate a successful end to Spring semester, plan for summer or fall classes, and stay on track for graduation.
