Hello Math Majors,

I hope that things are continuing to go well for you this semester. I expect that many of you are preparing for or are having your first exams of the fall semester. Thus, I wanted to take some time to share information about finding your best study space. For first semester students, I hope you are exploring places to study on campus that do not include your dorm room or living space. For experienced students, I hope that your previous study spaces are working well for you this fall.

Study spaces are places that work well for studying, and this is a very highly individualized thing. I would suggest considering the following questions: Do you need to be alone? Do you need quiet? Do you need background noise/activity? Do you limited distractions or isolation? Can you work anywhere? Do you need natural light? Do windows distract you? Answering these questions will help you determine where the best place to study is for you.

Some examples of places that you can study on campus are the Adele Hall Learning Commons first floor, Love Library North 2nd or 3rd floor, the Link between the Love Library North and South, the Nebraska Union, the Academic Grind in Oldfather Hall, and various small spaces in the buildings all of campus. One place that hasn't gotten much use since the COVID-19 pandemic started is the Math Undergraduate Lounge, which is Room 18 in Avery Hall. The Math Undergraduate Lounge is only accessible to Math majors, and you need NCard access to enter. As a Math major, we have been given you access, and if you cannot get in, please let me know.

I would highly encourage you to find your personal study space on campus, and I wish you the best with using it.

Best wishes, Doug
