Students – both domestic and international – staff, faculty and community members are invited to attend and volunteer for "Global Glam: A Night of Fashion, Diversity and Community," March 26 evening to celebrate the diversity of clothing and styles.

The entry fee is $15, and tickets will go on sale Feb. 28 at the Nebraska Student Union.

In addition to attending, students can also volunteer in one or more of these areas:

  • Model traditional clothing from home countries.
  • Be make-up artists to showcase artistic talents.
Volunteers must be available both days and evenings of Mar. 26. Students interested in volunteering can contact Natalie Baskin at nbaskin2@unl.edu.

Sponsored by the International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO), Student Leadership, Involvement & Community Engagement (SLICE) and University Housing, this event will feature inclusive designs from students at the Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design program, traditional global clothing modeled by international students and clothing and accessories from Lincoln's local independent retailers.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of appetizers provided by the Venue Restaurant & Lounge, live music performed by students from the Glen Korff School of Music and captivating entertainment in the form of the awe-inspiring fashions on display accompanied by a live DJ.

Additional activities include:
  • Cash bar provided by Misty's Steakhouse for attendees 21 and over;
  • Artistically-designed selfie station where patrons can pose for photos;
  • Open market featuring crafts and designs from local immigrant artisans for sale; and
  • Raffles to win items donated by local boutiques.
Inspired by the #BreakTheBias social media campaign that promotes solidarity, the goal of "Global Glam" is to demonstrate multiplicity and range of possibilities that beauty can inhabit. All participants are encouraged to dress up to show their cultures and styles.
