Overview: Explore Antarctica and the Southern Ocean with an emphasis on connections between Earth’s systems to learn how our planet works. Current events, online videos, polar explorations, and current research at the South Pole are blended to understand this region’s role in a global context. As stewards of the only planet known to sustain life, we have a responsibility to understand our natural environment, reduce and mitigate unnatural impacts, and make informed decisions as a scientifically literate society to help guide policy decisions about Earth’s future. Historical elements include deep-time perspectives of Earth and life through billions of years, as well as the history of human exploration & technological advances in the Polar Regions. Learn how international scientists collaborate to reconstruct the Antarctic region’s hidden past to help guide our planet’s future.
