Hello Math and Data Science Majors,

I hope your semester continues to go well as we roll through the sixth week of the semester. Now is the time to start thinking about your course plans for the Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters. Even though the spring semester started two weeks later than the old academic calendar, the timeline for the publishing of class schedules and opening enrollment has not changed. Additionally, the timing of Spring Break has not changed, which means that spring break is about two weeks earlier in the semester than usual.

The schedule of classes for the Summer 2024 semester has been published in MyRed, and you should have access to place classes in your shopping cart for the Summer 2024 semester now. Open registration for the Summer 2024 semester starts on Monday, March 4th, and since registration is open, all classes will fill up on a first come, first served basis. The demand for summer classes can vary, and this demand can be impacted by the course format. For example, online sections of ENGL 150 and ENGL 151 for the ACE 1 requirement will fill up more quickly than an in-person section of MATH 106.

On Monday, the schedule of classes for the Fall 2024 semester will be published, and you should have access to place classes in your shopping cart for the Fall 2024 semester. Your Priority Registration date and time for the Fall 2024 semester should also set and announced on Monday, March 4th in MyRed. While we won't have the exact schedule of classes to reference for the fall semester until Monday, there should be enough information about typical fall semester classes to start planning now. This is particularly so if you are planning to take summer classes in order to take specific fall semester classes.

Now is the time to schedule a meeting with me to discuss how your courses are going this semester, what your plans for this summer look like, and what your course plans are going forward. This is particularly so if you have an advising hold of any kind on your summer and/or fall semester registration. While I will be available during spring break, I doubt that many of you will be available for or thinking about a meeting. Not including spring break, there are only two and half weeks prior to the start of Priority Registration for the Fall 2024 semester, and the time will pass faster than you think. Additionally, I only have so many meetings available during the week between spring break and the start of Priority Registration, so I cannot meet with everyone.

Remember, it is always helpful to review your degree audit, to review the undergraduate catalog, and to reflect upon your current classes before meeting with me to help our meeting be more productive.

If you ever have questions or feedback about anything in the weekly newsletter, please let me know by shooting me an email. Sometimes, it is difficult for me to know if these emails are actually being read and/or found useful.

Best wishes, Doug
