Hello Math and Data Science Majors,

I hope you are doing well as we work through the middle of April and the three quarter point of the Spring 2025 semester. The three quarter point or the 75% mark of the semester marks the last day to withdraw from one or more full semester length courses. Officially, Friday, April 18th at 11:59 pm CDT is your last chance to withdraw from a full semester length course. Mini-session courses or courses with a different start and/or end date than the Spring 2025 semester have different deadlines to withdraw, and the specific withdrawal date will depend on the dates for the course.

There are many things to consider when determining if a course withdrawal is the right option for you if you are struggling in a challenging course this semester. First, you should check-in with your course instructor about how you are doing in their course, and this check-in will need to be a meeting during office hours or by appointment rather asking immediately before or after class. Second, it is a great idea to review your degree requirements and progress to see how withdrawing a course will impact both. I would be happy to meet with you if you have questions about this. Third, it is important to consider whether maintaining your enrollment and participation in a difficult course will negatively impact your participation and grades in other courses. Lastly, you should consult with the Husker Hub if you have concerns that withdrawing from a class will negatively impact your current and future eligibility for scholarships and financial aid. If you are an international student, it is a great idea to double check the impacts of withdrawing from a class on your immigration status with the International Student and Scholar Office.

If after considering all of these things withdrawing from a course is the best option, you need to complete the withdrawal process in MyRed and/or the Enrollment Scheduler by 11:59 pm CDT on Friday, April 18th. The Office of the University Registrar explains how to withdraw from a course at https://registrar.unl.edu/student-resources/registration/class-registration-tutorials/how-drop-classes/. At this point of the Spring 2025 semester, dropping a course is the same thing as withdrawing from a course. I am happy to help with the process of withdrawing if you need it.

Digital Learning Commons (DLC) Testing Center
Before we jump into class registration again, I want to share some information that I learned about the Digital Learning Commons (DLC) Testing Center. The DLC is currently at capacity, and students are struggling to be able to register for any times to take exams. Part of this capacity issue is the fact that students are signing up for exam times and not showing up. If you have made a reservation you do not intend to keep, please cancel it instead of simply not showing up. When you cancel, you create space for another student to take an exam, but when you simply don’t show up but keep the reservation on the books, this is not possible.

Class Registration
The Office of the University Registrar has a lot of helpful information about registering for classes at https://registrar.unl.edu/student-resources/registration/. Here is an overview of important information about registration for the Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters.

Summer 2025
Registration: NOW – Sunday Prior to First Day of Classes For Each Summer Session
Late Registration: First day of classes to 1–3 days after.
Registration for summer courses is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Schedule of Classes are contingent on approval of budget and adequate enrollment. Summer is treated as one term for record keeping purposes.

Summer financial aid is something that you apply for through MyRed after enrolling in summer classes.

Fall 2025
Open Registration: NOW – Sunday, August 24, 2025
Late Registration: Monday, August 25–Tuesday, September 2, 2025
Registration for fall courses is NOW on a first-come, first-served basis. The Schedule of Classes are contingent on approval of budget and adequate enrollment.

Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 financial aid starts with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and I would strongly encourage you to complete the FAFSA now if you haven't already done so.

I am committed to your academic success and want to ensure you have the support you need - especially during the early stages of your college journey, when you’re experiencing academic challenges, or going into the final stage of your college experience. If you have required advising, you should have a hold placed on your Summer 2025 and/or Fall 2025 course registration.
