Nebraska Mesonet Student Intern (Vegetation Technician)
The Nebraska State Climate Office and the Nebraska Mesonet are looking to hire two student interns to work as a team to support the Nebraska Mesonet native grass management program. Practices include identifying and preserving native grass and forbs in the vicinity of Nebraska Mesonet weather stations, mowing and maintaining each site, and in the locations devoid of native grass, establish new planting or reseeding to desired native grass species for drought tolerance and low growth habit. The bulk of the summertime work is mowing.
Positions will require considerable shared driving; applicants must have and maintain a valid driver's license and maintain said license with good driving habits. Lifting and physical labor in remote locations is required.
Vegetation Technicians may be called upon by Mesonet Technicians to assist in noting and reporting issues with weather station equipment or condition during their visit to each site.
Interested Technicians may also work during the Fall and Spring semesters on data projects relating weather data and vegetation, climate data, data requests, etc.
Successful applicants will report to the Mesonet Manager for the Nebraska State Climate Office.
Wage - $15.00/hour
Locations - Approximately 70 locations throughout the state of Nebraska, each location is approximately an area of 40' x 40', surrounding each of the Nebraska Mesonet weather stations.
Hours - These positions will be 40 hours/week during the summer, not to exceed 20 hours/week during Fall and Spring semesters.
