The Online Interdisciplinary Big Data Analytics in Science and Engineering REU is a purely online program open to students from the entire nation. The 8 week program will include training in fundamentals of HPC software (MPI) and productivity tools (like SLURM) on large distributed-memory clusters with CPUs and GPUs as well as Big Data Analytics applications like Tensorflow, Keras, Horovod.

The two project topics planned for summer 2021 are (i) Big Data and Machine Learning Techniques for Sea Ice Prediction and (ii) Big Data and Machine Learning Techniques for Medical Imaging Classification.

Each student will receive a stipend of $5,000 for participation and will be provided with opportunities to present their work at conferences. They are looking for students from all STEM disciplines and particularly also for students from the mathematical sciences who are interested in gaining both HPC and application experience.
