Meteorology Internship with HydroMet Consulting
HydroMet Consulting (HMC), based in Denver metro, Colorado, is looking for an intern for the summer of 2022.
The main responsibility of the intern will be to support, develop and quality control operational heavy rainfall forecasts within Colorado. Other responsibilities may include programming, various R&D projects and expansion of our social media presence.
The primary skills & qualifications that we are seeking:
• Completed coursework in synoptic meteorology. Coursework in mesoscale meteorology is a plus.
• Ability to prepare and deliver a weather forecast in a concise and comprehensible manner
• Time management skills and ability to work on multiple tasks
• Familiarity with the Linux environment
• Enthusiasm for personal development
• Interest and ability to work in a team environment
In addition, interest or experience in ANY of these secondary skills are also a major plus:
• Programming, including R and/or Python software
• Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), and relevant programs such as ESRI ArcMap and/or QGIS
• Interest in Hydrologic and Hydraulic Systems and relevant modeling
Qualifications:
This position is best suited for a senior or graduate student that has a solid education and is also interested in how applied science works from the hydrology/meteorology perspective. The desired start date is May 1st, with an end date of September 30th, though we understand if these dates need to be adjusted depending on school commitments, etc.
Candidates should expect a weekly workload of at least 20 hours, including possible work on weekends. Compensation will be competitive, and will be determined based on experience, qualifications and/or education of the individual. This is a remote position, although preference will be given to candidates that are able to work 1-2 days per week in our Lakewood, Colorado office.
