Math Motivators Kickoff Meeting

The Math Motivators Kickoff Meeting will be on Tuesday, September 6th at 6:30 - 7:30 pm in Hawks Hall Room 211. There will be pizza from Mellow Mushroom and information about the Math Motivators tutoring organization.

Math Motivators

Math Motivators is a non-profit math tutoring organization through the Actuarial Foundation. We recruit volunteer tutors from college campuses and corporate offices to tutor K-12 mathematics to underprivileged students. Most of our existing volunteers are from UNL.

Our Mission: The goal of Math Motivators is to close the opportunity gap to, in turn, close the achievement gap by using a volunteer driven math tutoring program that pairs underserved middle and high school students with professionals and college students with strong mathematics backgrounds.

Why Be a Math Motivator?
As teachers struggle to reach every student in a virtual environment, volunteers are needed now more than ever to support underserved middle and high school students who cannot afford to pay for private math tutors.

• Develop communication and leadership skills.

• Get involved as a Lead Volunteer or start a Math Motivators Club

Who can be a tutor?
• Anyone comfortable with high school math

What subject will I likely tutor?
• Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, or SAT/ACT Math; training, resources and materials are provided prior to each tutoring session

What’s the commitment?
• 1 hour per week virtually; each tutor works with one or two students
