Midwest Student Conference on Atmospheric Research 2022

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is delighted to announce that abstract submission for the 6th annual edition of the Midwest Student Conference on Atmospheric Research (MSCAR) is now open! MSCAR will be held as a hybrid of in person and virtual attendance on October 1-2. There is no fee to submit an abstract. Registration is $35 for in-person attendance and $5 for virtual attendance. Students must register in order to attend and present.

MSCAR is a budding, student-led conference designed for both graduate and undergraduate students to present their research and gain feedback before the annual meetings over winter break as well as learn from other students, distinguished scientists, and researchers. We are happy to announce that this year’s keynote speakers are Dr. Clark Evans (Professor and Program Chair, Department of Freshwater Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee), Dr. Angela Rowe (Assistant Professor, Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University Wisconsin-Madison), Dr. Fonna Forman (Professor of Political Science, Director of University of California-San Diego Center of Global Justice, University of California-San Diego) and Dr. Bo Li (Assistant Professor, The Grainger College of Engineering Computer Science Department, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign).

This year, we are excited to expand our workshops to include: Python for Atmospheric Sciences (led by Max Grover, Argonne National Laboratory), and Effective Science Communication (led by Dr. Alicia Klees, Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign). We are also excited to announce our first ever in person Graduate Schools and Careers Fair as well as an open house exhibit of our Doppler on Wheels (DOW) facilities.

The deadline to submit an abstract is September 9, 2022 at 11:59 pm CT, and the deadline to register for the conference is September 23, 2022 at 11:59 pm CT. The forms for submitting an abstract and registering for the conference, as well as more information about MSCAR can be found on our website (https://atmos.illinois.edu/mscar).
