Hello Meteorology-Climatology Majors,
I hope that you had an enjoyable Labor Day weekend. With no more planned weekdays off until Fall Break in October, there is a substantial amount of the semester kicking off today. Things will always move more quickly than you expect, so please be checking Canvas and your Huskers email daily. Overall, the biggest thing that can sink your ability to succeed is not attending class. If you miss class for any reason, please connect with your instructor, your TA, or a trusted classmate to make sure that you stay on track.
Now, I want to discuss attending the Fall 2023 University Career Fairs that will be taking place on Tuesday, September 19th; Wednesday, September 20th; Thursday, September 21st; and Thursday, September 28th. The University Career Fairs are an excellent opportunity to learn more about companies and organizations that are interested in UNL graduates and to practice networking with potential employing companies and organizations. The companies and organizations that attend may not be hiring immediately, but they want you to see them as a place to find opportunities. The Fall Career Fairs tend to be a great time to seek an internship for next summer, but some of the companies and organizations may also be looking to hire full-time, permanent positions.

You will be able to register to attend the Fall 2023 University Career Fairs on Handshake, but registration isn't required to be able to attend. Handshake will also have a list of companies and organizations planning to attend each day of the Career Fair. It is a great idea to review the companies and organizations that are planning to attend the career fair to help prepare.
Our College of Arts and Sciences Career Coaches can help you prepare for the Fall 2023 University Career Fairs. I would strongly encourage you to schedule a meeting with them or to visit them during their drop-in hours to get help with your resume, your "elevator pitch," and your mocking interviewing skills.
Time Away
I will be away from the office in the afternoon on Friday, September 8th and the entire week of September 11th through 15th, so I will not be having drop-in advising on September 8th, 13th, or 15th. I will have very limited access to email and the resources required to respond to emails, and I won't be sending out an email newsletter on Tuesday, September 12th. During my time away, the College of Arts and Sciences Academic and Career Advising Center and our faculty undergraduate mentor will be available to help with immediate issues. I look forward to connecting with you when I return as the fall semester continues onward.
Fall 2023 Advising
I am taking in-person, Zoom, and phone meetings in 45-minute blocks from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm and 1:15 pm to 5:00 pm every weekday when I am not taking Zoom drop-in advising meetings. I am also take Zoom drop-in advising meetings on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Zoom drop-in meetings are being coordinated by the College of Arts and Sciences with a schedule and a link to the Zoom room available at https://cas.unl.edu/drop-in-advising-schedule.
