The Office of Science is seeking two summer interns through the Pathways Student Internship program to serve as Physical Science or General Engineer Student Trainees in the Office of the Deputy Director for Science Programs (DDSP) in the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science (SC). Each intern will have the opportunity to work with SC staff on projects which have wide-reaching impacts to the scientific community and policymakers.
Each of these interns will pursue different projects within SC; both include efforts with data discovery, data management, and data analysis. Additional details for these two internships are provided below:
• Accelerator Research & Development and Production (ARDAP) supports accelerator-related applications across the Office of Science, to foster innovation, train an expert and diverse workforce, and develop a durable domestic industry in accelerator science and technology. The endeavor is interdisciplinary, with aspects of particle physics, electromagnetism, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, cryogenics, materials science, tech transfer and industrialization, among others. ARDAP seeks a Pathways intern to help identify promising new scientists, to gather and analyze data on technology markets, and to assist with analyzing our research program’s performance. Please contact Eric.Colby@science.doe.gov for any questions.
• Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) creates and provides high performance computing, networking, and data research infrastructure–including the world’s first exascale supercomputers–to advance scientific discovery. ASCR has a long history of supporting foundational research in computer science, AI, and applied mathematics. Today ASCR is advancing AI for science and energy, quantum information science, and other critical and emerging technologies crucial to our future. ASCR seeks a Pathways intern to work with our team to tell our story and create new ways of reaching the future workforce, broadening awareness of the opportunities to participate in advanced computing and AI research across DOE’s national laboratories. Please contact benjamin.brown@science.doe.gov for any questions.
