UNL Meteorology-Climatology
UNL Meteorology-Climatology

Hello Meteorology-Climatology Majors,

I hope that you survived last's week cold weather rather intact and healthy. This week, I want to discuss the upcoming class registration periods for the Summer and Fall 2025 semesters. Here are the important registration dates that you need to know:

Now: Summer 2025 course schedules have been published, and the Summer 2025 shopping cart is available.
Monday, March 3rd: Summer 2025 open registration begins (everyone without a hold can enroll). Fall 2025 course schedules will be published, and the Fall 2025 shopping cart will be available. It is possible that Fall 2025 Priority Registration dates will be published.
Monday, March 17th to Friday, March 21st: Spring Break
Monday, March 24th to Tuesday, April 8th: Priority Registration for the Fall 2025 semester (qualifying students have a specific data and time to enroll)
Wednesday, April 9th: Fall 2025 open registration begins (everyone without a hold can enroll).

While I know that you are busy with your current classes this semester, now is the time to start thinking about your course plans for the Summer and Fall 2025 semesters. Planning takes time and effort with the reward being that you get to enroll in the classes that you want for the next semesters while also getting to enroll in the classes that you need for your degree. Additionally, if you need help with planning your future courses, you will likely need to meet with me and other advisors. These meetings will need to be planned as well as I and other advisors cannot meet with everyone at the same time. We also cannot answer everyone's emails at the same time.

Beat the rush and avoid having to wait! Schedule your advising meeting now and start your planning now so you can ask questions well in advance of the registration period. I look forward to helping you with your planning to ensure that you are getting the classes that you need and want!

Required Advising
I am committed to your academic success and want to ensure you have the support you need - especially during the early stages of your college journey, when you’re experiencing academic challenges, or going into the final stage of your college experience. The College of Arts and Sciences has required advising for students in their first and second semesters, and the University has required advising for students on Academic Warning after the Fall 2024 semester. The University also has required advising for students who appear to be entering the final year of their undergraduate coursework based on credit hours completed.

We require advising for first and second semester students as we want to ensure that you are building a strong foundation as a college student, having a smooth transition from high school to college or from another school to UNL, and getting the personalized planning that you need to help you reach your goals. We also require advising for students on Academic Warning after the previous semester to help identify the challenges from the previous semester(s), to develop strategies to overcome or mitigate those changes, and to ensure that you have the support that you need at UNL. Finally, we require advising for students entering their final year to ensure that they know the specific requirements that they have left to fulfill to complete their degree and what courses should be available to fulfill those requirements across their final fall and spring semesters.

If you have required advising, you will have or already have a hold placed on your Summer 2025 and/or Fall 2025 course registration. The remaining week of February and the weeks of March before Spring Break are an excellent time to schedule your advising meeting with me as Summer 2025 and/or Fall 2025 registration hasn't started yet. Scheduling your advising meeting is a proactive step toward achieving your academic goals. I am here to support you at every stage - whether you’re just beginning your college experience, working through challenges, or trying to finish strong.

Newsletter Feedback
If you ever have questions or feedback about anything in the weekly newsletter, please let me know by shooting me an email. Sometimes, it is difficult for me to know if these emails are actually being read and/or found useful.

Best wishes, Doug
