Keynote Speakers: Dr. Rita R. Colwell & Dr. Jim Van Etten
Dr. Colwell is an internationally recognized microbiologist and authority on infectious diseases, former Director of the National Science Foundation, and recipient of the 2006 National Medal of Science.
Dr. Van Etten is a worldwide leader in the field of algal virology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Microbiology and as a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Spring 2027 - Also serves as an ACE 10 Course
This course provides a broad, interdisciplinary introduction to biosecurity and bioterrorism as emerging challenges to national and global security. Designed for students in agriculture, plant pathology, animal science, pre-veterinary medicine, microbiology, pre-medicine, public health, political science, international relations, criminal justice, history, law, and policy, the class brings together diverse perspectives in a uniquely rich way.
MBIO 498 is a course focused on independent study and laboratory or field investigation of a specific microbiology topic. Microbiology students enrolled in this course engage in experiential learning as they pursue laboratory or field research projects under the mentorship of microbiology research faculty.
