Support certain program activities of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety related to waste management, radiation protection, and laboratory safety. Waste management functions include evaluation, classification, receipt, inspection, and preparation of wastes for off-site transport, and audits at campus points of generation. Radiation protection functions include radioactive material receipt and check-in, instrument calibrations, sealed source inventories and leak tests, audits, and contamination surveys. Laboratory safety functions include evaluation of chemical hazards and safety/compliance audits. Maintain associated records and database information for all program areas. Under the direction of other EHS staff, assist with spill response clean-up.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate’s in environmental, natural, or equivalent science, engineering, occupational safety/industrial hygiene, or fire safety, plus two years laboratory, health physics, waste management, occupational safety or equivalent experience. Basic knowledge of physical properties and hazards of chemicals and ionizing radiation essential. Good communication and recordkeeping abilities; good interpersonal skills; good organizational skills; and basic computer skills necessary. Must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment (including respirators). Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, natural, or equivalent science, engineering, occupational safety/industrial hygiene, or fire safety preferred. General knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to accumulation, storage, transport, and disposal of regulated wastes and ionizing radiation/health physics preferred.
