Welcome to the start of the 2021-22 academic year in the Microbiology Program! Despite the continuing pandemic and recent rise in cases of COVID-19, the start of another year brings excitement and promise. This year is no exception. We are looking forward to an exciting year that includes a new Microbiology research symposium on November 12 (save the date) as well as Microbiology Club activities. These events will provide additional opportunities to learn more about the microbial and viral world and allow you to explore an area of your interest and inspire career development.
As a reminder, we are here to support you and your success at the UNL. Please do continue to explore the many courses that are offered and speak with your advisors and Dr. Brandi Sigmon, the program’s Academic Success Coordinator, to explore all the experiential learning opportunities available to you. The COVID-19 Saliva Collector will be responsible for registering participants for and assisting with collection of saliva samples from UNL faculty, staff, or students for COVID testing. The Collector will watch the patient (participant) spit into a collection tube, close the tube, and then will collect the sample, and place it in a collections bin. This process will take less than two minutes and will be repeated several times within a shift. They will also be responsible for setup and close-down duties, sanitizing work area, and keeping inventory stock full. This person will be required to be in full PPE which is provided.
If your first class is on MONDAY, Aug. 23, you'll need to test no later than Saturday, Aug. 21.
If your first class is on TUESDAY, Aug. 24, you'll need to test no later than Sunday, Aug. 22.
The Microbiology Club is getting ready for an awesome semester! If you would like to join a club with great educational opportunities and socialize with fellow microbiology majors, you are welcome to come to our first meeting of the Fall 2021 Semester!
A large portion of the course will consist of guest lectures by UNL’s microbiology experts. They will concentrate on a selected case study emphasizing value, critical features and future contributions. The FAFSA is the only way to determine if you are eligible for federal financial aid, such as grants and loans, and is required by many scholarships. The sooner you complete your FAFASA the better! FAFSA for 2022-2023 will be based on 2020 tax information.
