HELPFUL HIGHLIGHT

Each newsletter I will be sharing tips, campus resources, and skills that can help you personally, academically, and professionally.

This week’s highlight is Counseling and Psychological Services!

I would argue that CAPS is one of the single most critical resources we have on campus. Did you know that, as a UNL student, you have access to free counseling sessions? Whether you are stressed as finals are getting closer, or you’re feeling anxious about being in an unsafe environment over winter break, or you’ve recently lost a friend or family member, or… or… or… CAPS can help. Maybe mental health has been a struggle for you for years or maybe you’re experiencing mental health challenges for the first time. Please set up an appointment with one of the psychologists or counselors at CAPS! Your wellbeing matters.

You can call 402-472-7450 to set up an appointment. Helpful fact: this number is also their after-hours crisis line! If you feel nervous about setting up an appointment or would like accountability to make sure you actually schedule that appointment, you can set up a meeting with me and I’ll support you in that.

ADVISING UPDATE

I have drop-in advising hours every Tuesday morning from 10:00am-12:00pm and Friday afternoon from 1:00-3:00pm. This is a great time to pop in and ask quick questions. In the link below, you’ll also find the drop-in hours for other CAS advisors if you have a second major or minor within the college and would like to check in with them.

Here is where you can find the drop-in advising schedule and the link to access the CAS Drop-In Advising Zoom Room: https://cas.unl.edu/drop-in-advising-schedule

If you are searching for classes and not seeing some of the options for courses you thought were going to be offered, make sure you are including Distance delivery in your search! There are several classes offered online or through Web-Conferencing that are categorized as Distance.

---

Pay attention to the mode of instruction of the courses you’re enrolling in! There will be a few options, like Online (online, asynchronous), Web Conferencing (online, synchronous), and In-Person. If you enroll in an in-person, you are expected to be physically present unless you are in quarantine or have extenuating circumstances. These courses will not be as flexible as courses this semester in allowing you to attend class via Zoom.
