ON-CAMPUS OPPORTUNITIES

Pre-Law UCARE Research
• Students interested in pursuing a legal history project that features black, Indigenous, immigrant, institutionalized, and child petitioners should reach out to Dr. Jagodinsky: kjagodinsky@unl.edu to discuss applying for her UCARE project.
• Applications are due Feb 15 and interested students should contact her by Feb 1; positions are available for Summer 21 and Academic Year 21-22.
o When you reach out to Dr. Jagodinsky, identify your general academic interests and any skills you bring to a research team.
• The project features habeas petitions from 1812-1924 and covers typical legal procedural questions as well as extraordinary challenges against enslavement, reservation internment, deportation, child removal, juvenile delinquency, and insanity proceedings. Students work as a team with staff at the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities to process and encode the petitions and do their own research on the ways marginalized people used the law over the long nineteenth century.
