Immigration Law Training – VIISTA Program
• If you have an interest in practicing immigration law someday, you can be trained to represent immigrants on a volunteer (and possibly paid) basis even before you have a JD. This would be a great way to explore the area of immigrant law. It could also be a good use of your time during a gap year between graduating from UNL and attending law school.
• The online VIISTA program at Villanova University trains you to become an immigrant advocate for migrants or refugees who do not have legal representation. This training offers background for future law school classes and may qualify you to work for a non-profit organization working with migrants and refugees (e.g. Catholic Social Services, Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, Lutheran Family Services, Center for Legal Immigration Assistance).
