Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity is one of the most significant commissioners of concert band music in the world. In conjunction with Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, the National Intercollegiate Band Commissioning Program has produced many great works since 1951. The Fraternity, and many of its Districts and Chapters, have commissioned numerous other works as well. In celebration of Kappa Kappa Psi’s Centennial (November 27, 2019), the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphonic Band presents a program of these commissions titled, Founder’s Day, on December 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
Graduate Assistant Conductor Matthew Smoot will join Tony Falcone in conducting pieces by Joel Puckett, Frank Ticheli, Robert Russell Bennett, Julie Giroux and Bohumil Makovsky.
The Symphonic Band has the distinction of being the band program’s top symphonic ensemble. With an emphasis on the distinctive characteristics of the large wind and percussion ensemble, the Symphonic Band’s repertoire is culled from the rich resources of the wind band tradition.
Tickets: Adults $5; Students/Seniors $3. This performance will also be live webcast. Visit music.unl.edu the night of the performance for the direct link.
